This time I went with another classic French ‘People’s Car’...the Renault 4! Rival to Citroen’s famed 2CV and arguably one of the first true ‘hatchbacks’! :)
Specifically I went for the later ‘80s (1983+) R4 cluster....it’s surprisingly hard to find high-def decent reference pictures for this one! 0_o
At any rate, here’s the finished product!
Reference pics:
According to RedBubble you need to upload 5 designs before your store goes online, so this means people

! I don’t expect you guys to buy anything (hopefully nobody has taken my posts that way!) and I’m not expecting to sell much, but even a little here and there from random folks wandering onto my designs is a little extra coin in my pocket every so often! :)
It’s mostly doing it and posting them just for fun, to more learn image-editing skills and to learn how to use Inkscape! More designs will be added over time, but I have no idea what #6 will be yet....still thinking of doing a Classic Mini at some point, and something classic and American...maybe something else British as well, like the Anglia that fellow Opponaut
Who Is The Leader
has suggested. :)

Wow, my username really makes mentioning me hard without making the sentence unintelligible. It’s like I chose ‘Who is the Leader’ on purpose to enact a vendetta against sentence structure and easy reading.
That looks good. Let’s hope the dummy lights don’t signal complete failure of everything at once and just mean the key is in the accessory position. I like the horizontal fuel gauge. What does ‘Quatrelle’ mean?
I just looked at your Redbubble store and that is a whole lot of cool designs in one place, even if it is the minimum amount. I think the Deux Chevaux is my favorite of the bunch.

Now you’ve got me looking for Willys MB dash plates to put on a t-shirt.
This looks pretty good too: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/willys-jeep-dashboard-marco-oliveira.html?product=coffee-mug

I Think the 2CV, FIAT 500 and VW Beetle ones are my favorites so far! :D
‘Quatrelle’ is the nickname/pet name for the Renault 4 in France......it’s a French portmanteau of the words ‘quatre’ (French for ‘four’) and ‘elle’ for...well....’L’, haha! The Renault 4 came
in several variations over the years...the R4 (the first generation), the R4 L, the R4 TL and the R4 GTL. There was actually an R3 as well in the earliest generation, which was like the most basic, cheap, small-engined version you could get.

Oh, good idea! I never thought of that one! I should find a high-res
ver
sion of the Willys MB gauge cluster...would make for a nice first American design! :)

Interesting bit about the model name as a nickname. Was this applied to all models? So that would be like calling a Mustang a “GT” or less directly an F350 a “Super D uty.”

I actually never even thought that it might be a “ 4 elle” , it always have been a “ 4 L” in my mind.
You made me think that it might also be a “4 ailes” (4 wings) but that would not make any sense :)

There is also a similar confusion between the Citroen ID and the DS.. .
I actually had this discussion today with my mother because i was driving her (in her diesel Citroen C3 Picasso) and there was a DS (or was it an ID) with bikes on a rack on the back of the car on the other side of the road (it was actually in the town just next to where Sebastien Ogier is from), i knew it would have made a nice picture to post here but i was driving :(
I asked her if she saw the DS, she told me no and asked my why, i told her about the bike rack that was unusual which didn’t seem to be shocking her but she told me “but was it an ID or a DS?” and i told her that is i was right, the DS is a specific model of the ID so it might be both but i wasn’t sure, she also wasn’t and i just remember this anecdote when reading your post... checking Wikipedia proved me wrong .

I’m honestly not sure! Maybe an Oppo from France would know...? As far as I am aware it was a nickname given to the first Renault 4s that sortof just
‘stuck’ on all subsequent variations.

I honestly never remember the different between the ID and the DS either :(
I think the ID was sortof marketed as if it was a completely different model, but it was really just a more stripped-of-features version of the DS...? I mean, I KNOW they are the same car and the above is exactly the case...I just think Citroen didn’t MARKET them that way and marketed them as if they were two unrelated cars, if that make sense...?

Huh. I suppose it makes sense.
